Marcus J. Kocmur joined the firm in 2000. His practice includes advising clients in real estate matters, the formation and governance of business entities, and the purchase, management, and disposition of business interests, tangible and intangible assets, and real property. He also litigates in state and federal court, helping clients resolve commercial contract, real property, land use, environmental, and business tort claims, and other complex business and real estate litigation.
Mr. Kocmur received his bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara (B.A., 1993). He received his law degree from the University of Montana School of Law (J.D., 1998), where he was an editor of the Public Land and Resources Law Review. During law school, he served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Leo S. Papas, United States Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of California.
Following law school, Mr. Kocmur served as a law clerk to the Honorable Terry N. Trieweiler, Justice of the Montana Supreme Court.
He is admitted to practice before all courts of the states of California and Montana (inactive), as well as the United States District Court for the Central District of California and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He is the CFO and a member of the board of directors of the CPA • Law Society of Santa Barbara County, and a member of the Santa Barbara County Bar Association, the Santa Barbara County Barristers Association, and the American Bar Association’s section of Real Property, Trust & Estate Law. Mr. Kocmur also serves on the school site development committee for the Montessori Center School of Santa Barbara.
